Salvation Mountain

Today in my outsider art class we learned about the happy man in this photo, Leonard Knight. Leonard has built a mountain out of clay and paint to display his love for the Lord. What an awesome, inspiring man! He calls his masterpiece Salvation Mountain.

How did Leonard come to know Christ?
In 1967 Leonard was visiting his sister Irene in San Diego. She was always talking about the Lord and it sort of bothered Leonard. One morning to escape her sermonizing, Leonard went out of the house to sit in his van. To this day he really doesn’t know why, but he started repeating a prayer - “Jesus, I’m a sinner, please come upon my body and into my heart.” It was on that Wednesday… at 10:30 in the morning… in his van… all by himself… at age 35… he accepted Jesus into his heart and he hasn’t been the same ever since. His passion and dedication is amazing! (website link below as source)

Leonards ”house” of 26 years, is built on the back of an old 1939 White fire truck decorated as ornately as his mountain. He has no electricity, gas, running water, phone, heating, air conditioning, or any of the other things that so many of us take for granted.

I want to do missionary work. I’ve gone on a missions trip to Mexico and it’s so moving. Working in God’s ministry is so fulfilling. This image really hit home for me. God’s love is so amazing. I wish everyone could feel it like I have. Once you feel the love of God, you’re never the same. I want to share His love with everyone.
